Current information on the staff & students at Siuyu, as well as its state legalities

Children

There are 40 total children at the Siuyu Children’s Rehabilitation Centre. Twelve are physically disabled, and attend ordinary classes at the local primary school, with two set to graduate in September. Two former students completed primary school last year, and are now enrolled in Form 1 at government secondary schools. In addition, one former student is currently in Form 2, two are in Form 3, and one is in Form 5. Beyond secondary education, one former student has earned a degree in Accountancy, while another is expected to complete a degree in Social Planning this August.

Those that are intellectually impaired will go to the special, local government school with trained teachers, and the others frequent a Centre 45 kilometers away, under the jurisdiction of the Catholic Diocese of Singida, and the Daughters of Mary Sisters.

There is also a storekeeper, matron, and two groups of four women each day to clean, cook, wash the clothes, and care for the children. Each evening, two men and two women come to stay overnight with the students. These workers are voluntary, even if they do receive a small thank you compensation at the end of each month. All but one are committed members of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate, Pallottine Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, and Lay Members.
